About The Canola Roller | 2026
The 2026 Canola Roller takes place on Saturday, 19 September 2026, starting from the charming village of Greyton in the Western Cape. Hosted by the Greyton Mountain Bike Club, this gravel riding event offers an unforgettable springtime adventure through the beautiful Overberg and the Riviersonderend Mountains. ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐ผ
Riders can choose from four distance options: 130km, 80km, 50km, and 30km, making the event suitable for experienced gravel grinders, strong recreational riders, juniors, and families looking for a scenic day out on the bike. ๐
The headline 130km gravel grind features approximately 1,700m of climbing, with around 95% of the route on gravel roads, including exclusive access to private farm tracks. Riders can expect fast rolling hills, technical climbs, exciting downhills, and a proper gravel challenge that remains conquerable on a gravel bike. ๐ฅ
The 80km route offers a challenging but non-technical ride with around 990m of elevation, while the 50km route includes approximately 400m of climbing and is open to riders aged 15 and older. The family-friendly 30km route features around 300m of elevation and is open to riders aged 13 and older. ๐๐ดโโ๏ธ
This is also a ride with purpose. Fifty percent of proceeds go toward the Greyton MTB Juniors Club, while the other fifty percent supports the maintenance and improvement of the local mountain bike and gravel trail network. The Greyton MTB Juniors Club supports more than 40 children from the community through training, mentorship, and encouragement. ๐
Greyton is a popular spring destination, so participants are encouraged to book accommodation early and make a full weekend of the event.
