Garden Route Triathlon in Mossel Bay – Sprint, Standard & Ultra triathlon distances on a scenic coastal course.
(-34.1776901, 22.1373556)
The new Garden Route Triathlon on 20th September in Mossel Bay will include Sprint, Standard, and Ultra-distance races, making it accessible to both beginners and experienced athletes. This latest addition to the South African Triathlon Series will provide the same signature ‘serious-fun’ great value-for-money experience that athletes have grown to love at the Blue Lagoon, Cape Town and Race2Hermanus triathlons.
After a magically scenic drive along the world-renowned Garden Route, you may be surprised to discover this quaint old town, tucked far away from the highway and industrial area, right on the water’s edge below the iconic lighthouse that has warded ships from the rocky point for centuries. A delightful family-friendly weekend away: munching seafood & walking safely along the beaches at sunset. There’s accommodation to fit every budget.
Swimmers will enjoy 1 or 2 laps of Indian Ocean temperatures in the clean, protected waters of Santos Beach. This beautiful sandy bay offers great spectator points from seaside restaurants, the raised areas around the finish & transition, and the long white sand where we will see an Aussie exit on two-lap courses before heading up to transition just off the beach.
The brand-new, tri-bike-friendly course avoids the busy highway and steep hills. It follows the new road north along the old railway line (complete with newly refurbished steam train for spectators) corridor towards Herolds Bay, then back. This fast and scenic 1 lap course on the very recently completed road will make the GRT one of the most scenic and iconic triathlon courses in South Africa
The 1 or two lap run route takes in the coastal edge walking path toward the camping site and zip line cave. Runners head back on rolling hills through the quaint old town on a quiet Sunday morning before finishing on the beach. They have the option of a stoked dive into the sea to wash off sweat and soak in glory before a long slow beachfront lunch with supporters.
Solo entrants get medal + tee; team entrants get cap, no medal.
