About Rhodes Quality Dryland Traverse | 2026
29th Oct 26 - Oudtshoorn
The Dryland Traverse is a multi-day trail running event that takes place in the remote and rugged terrain of the Eastern Cape Highlands in South Africa. The race covers a distance of approximately 95 kilometers over three days, and participants traverse some of the most stunning and challenging terrain in the region.
The Rhodes Dryland Traverse is named for the small town of Rhodes, which serves as the base camp for the event. The town is situated at an altitude of 1,860 meters, and the race takes runners through a variety of landscapes, including rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and open grasslands. The route is designed to showcase the natural beauty of the region, with participants passing through areas that are seldom seen by visitors.
The race is open to solo runners as well as teams of two or three, and participants carry their own equipment and supplies for the duration of the event. The course is marked, but runners are expected to be self-sufficient and navigate the terrain on their own.
The Rhodes Dryland Traverse is known for its challenging terrain, with steep ascents and descents that require participants to be in excellent physical condition. However, the event also offers plenty of opportunities to connect with other runners and experience the camaraderie of the trail running community.
