Discover the charm of the Herbertsdale Valley Hike, an immersive outdoor experience set in the historic village of Herbertsdale, nestled in the Langtou Valley near the Langeberg Mountains. Established in 1865 on the farm Hemelrood, this scenic rural settlement is rich with heritage, farmhouses, and unspoiled natural beauty.
The hike begins at Die Ou Skooltjie Padstal, Herbertsdale’s original school built in 1903 and beautifully restored into a warm, welcoming farm stall. After the hike, participants can enjoy its homemade jams, fresh coffee, and delicious cakes — a local favourite.
The route is beginner-friendly with a 3/10 difficulty rating, making it ideal for hikers of all experience levels. A full gear checklist is provided for safety, and communication is handled via the dedicated WhatsApp group.
